Privacy Policy for BingBus
Last Updated: September 16, 2026
Application ID: com.bingbus.app
OVERVIEW
BingBus (“the Application”) is an independent public transit tracking application developed by GCAN INFO (OPC) PRIVATE LIMITED to provide live bus tracking, arrival estimates, and published schedules for riders in the Binghamton, New York area.
DISCLAIMER:
BingBus is an independent application. It is not an official application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Binghamton University, Off Campus College Transport (OCCT), or Broome County Transit. All transit data and schedules are sourced directly from publicly accessible feeds.
BingBus is engineered with a client-first, privacy-respecting architecture:
- No user accounts or login required.
- No remote developer tracking servers.
- No collection, sale, or monetization of personal data.
- INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USAGE
Location Data:
- When We Access Location: BingBus requests access to your device’s location while using the app (WhenInUse / ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION).
- How It Is Used: Your location is processed solely in real-time to display your position on the map, rank nearby bus stops by walking distance, and show upcoming departures closest to you.
- No Remote Logging: Your location coordinates remain on your device. They are never recorded, never sent to external servers, and never linked to your personal identity.
- User Control: You can disable location permissions in your device settings at any time without losing access to manual route schedules and timetable lookups.
Transit Feeds & Network Requests:
The Application connects directly from your device to public transit APIs:
- Binghamton University OCCT: ETA Spot public API feeds for vehicle coordinates, routes, and arrival predictions.
- Broome County Transit: Connexionz public API endpoints for transit platforms, vehicle positions, and timetables.
- Official Schedules: Published schedule tables and timetable documents retrieved from occtransport.org.
- Destination Search: OpenStreetMap Nominatim for geocoding and search queries.
- Walking Routes: street data (c) OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), bundled in the app and calculated on the device; no request is made.
These network calls are standard direct requests containing no user profiling tokens, account credentials, or tracking identifiers.
Map Display Services:
Maps are displayed using native platform frameworks:
- iOS: Apple Maps SDK (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/)
- Android: Google Maps SDK (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
- LOCAL DEVICE STORAGE
BingBus stores necessary offline reference data locally on your device using SQLite:
- Timetables and stop directories cached for fast offline access.
- Saved favorite routes or stops stored only on your device.
- Ephemeral Detour Observations: When buses deviate from published routes, detour paths are stored temporarily on the observing device and automatically deleted after two hours.
No user data or local preferences are ever uploaded to external cloud databases.
- ANALYTICS, TRACKING, AND ADVERTISING
- Zero Trackers: BingBus does not integrate commercial analytics SDKs, session replay frameworks, or behavioral trackers.
- Zero Ads: The Application contains no advertising banners, interstitials, or tracking pixels.
- No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
BingBus does not knowingly collect, store, or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13.
- SECURITY
Because BingBus does not transmit or store personal information on remote developer servers, there is no remote database vulnerable to data breaches. Connections to public transit APIs use encrypted HTTPS where supported.
- CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy if transit APIs or legal requirements change. Updates will be indicated by the revised “Last Updated” date at the top of this document.
